Algarve a não perder – Aldeia do Burgau | Algarve not to be missed – Burgau Village

Praia do Burgau surge na foz da linha de água que marca a fronteira com o concelho de Lagos. Trata-se de um areal de média extensão, espraiado ao longo de uma baía mediterrânica que torneia a aldeia piscatória do Burgau, com origens numa antiga armação de pesca de atum já existente no século XVI. No centro da baía existe uma rampa aparelhada com lajes de pedra calcária, que ainda funciona como serventia a tradicionais embarcações de pesca. De manhã é possível observar a quotidiana faina dos pescadores. Além da sua beleza natural e da forte identidade cultural, esta praia apresenta boas condições de acessibilidade e proximidade ao estacionamento automóvel. Garante águas calmas na maior parte do ano, sendo abrigada dos ventos predominantes. Deve o seu nome ao molusco gastrópode marinho, um caracol do mar também conhecido como “caramujo” ou “burrié”, abundante nas rochas desta praia. A Aldeia do Burgau marca o início do Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina, que se prolonga pela costa sul e ocidental de Portugal, até ao concelho alentejano de Sines.

Burgau beach appears at the mouth of the water line that marks the border with the municipality of Lagos. It is a medium-sized beach, spread out along a Mediterranean bay that makes the fishing village of Burgau, with origins in an old tuna fishing structure that already existed in the 16th century. In the center of the bay there is a ramp equipped with limestone slabs, which still works as a service for traditional fishing boats. In the morning it is possible to observe the daily work of fishermen. In addition to its natural beauty and strong cultural identity, this beach has good conditions for accessibility and proximity to car parking. It guarantees calm waters most of the year, being sheltered from the prevailing winds. It owes its name to the marine gastropod mollusk, a sea snail also known as “snail” or “burrié”, abundant in the rocks of this beach. Aldeia do Burgau (Burgau Village) marks the beginning of the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina, which extends along the south and west coast of Portugal, to the Alentejo municipality of Sines.
